‘I wouldn’t be here’: NM candidate credits Charlie Kirk for congressional run

On Sept. 10, one year after right-wing podcaster Charlie Kirk was assassinated, Republican candidate Greg Cunningham credited Kirk with inspiring his current campaign to unseat Rep. Gabe Vasquez (D) in New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, one of the tightest swing seats in the country. Speaking at President Trump’s midterm convention in Dallas, the GOP hopeful said that he “wouldn’t be if not for Charlie.” Cunningham’s speech included details from his career as an undercover detective for the Albuquerque police department and calls for the border to be closed to stop the “steady stream of fentanyl.”
