At a live interview with the Santa Fe New Mexican on Sept. 24, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland reiterated her support for a public option for health insurance coverage. During the interview, Haaland warned about Medicaid recipients who will be “kicked off” in 2027 due to new work requirements passed under President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act Earlier this month, the state announced that premiums for plans on the state’s health insurance market would go up 24%.
