Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland has vowed to issue a data center moratorium on her first day in office, if elected. During a press conference at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, Haaland said she will sign an executive order to pause new large-scale data centers and will work with the state legislature to pass robust requirements. Haaland’s accountability plan includes eight standards for regulating data center development including protections for ratepayers, resource usage, transparency, and local job growth. During the press conference, Haaland addressed reporting from the Santa Fe New Mexican that CEOs from data center companies had donated to her campaign. “I cannot be bowled over with donations to my campaign,” Haaland told reporters.
