New Mexico AG Raúl Torrez says the Trump Justice Department is “stonewalling” the state’s criminal investigation into Jeffrey Epstein’s Zorro Ranch.
Torrez told CNN’s Jake Tapper that his office has spent 173 days seeking access to unredacted Epstein files and has made at least 10 requests to DOJ. He says the records could help investigators identify potential co-conspirators, witnesses and other evidence tied to alleged criminal activity at the New Mexico property. The state has now sued DOJ for access to the files.
Torrez also disputed Todd Blanche’s sworn testimony that DOJ was continuing to cooperate with New Mexico, telling Tapper: “They’ve never worked with us.” DOJ says it is not required to provide the unredacted files and has cited victims’ privacy concerns. Torrez called that justification a “smokescreen,” saying Epstein survivors themselves support New Mexico’s effort to obtain the records.
