Making a plan to vote in New Mexico? Start with these dates

Here are the dates you need to know if you’re planning to vote in New Mexico’s 2026 midterm elections.

New Mexico gives voters several ways to participate before Election Day, including absentee voting and early in-person voting. If you’re planning to cast a ballot this November, here are the dates and deadlines you’ll want to have on your calendar.

Here’s what to know:

Oct. 6: Make sure your registered to vote
Oct. 6 is the voter registration deadline for the general election. New Mexico also offers same-day voter registration during early voting and on Election Day, giving eligible voters another opportunity to register and participate. To register to vote, visit our voter registration portal.

Oct. 6:  Early voting begins
Absentee and early in-person voting begins at county clerk offices on Oct. 6. New Mexico does not require an excuse to vote absentee, giving voters another option for casting their ballot before Election Day.

Oct. 17- Oct. 31: More early voting options open
Expanded early voting begins Oct. 17 and continues through Oct. 31 at additional locations throughout the state. Exact dates and locations may vary slightly by county, so voters should check their local election information before heading out.

Oct. 20: Last Day to Request Absentee Ballot By Mail
If you plan to vote absentee by mail, Oct. 20 is the deadline to request your ballot by mail.

Nov. 3: Election Day
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. MT, and absentee ballots must be received by 7 p.m. to be counted.
